About
Overview
Looker (now part of Google Cloud) is an enterprise-level Business Intelligence (BI) platform. Unlike traditional BI tools, Looker uses a semantic modeling layer (LookML) to define metrics and relationships, allowing for consistent, governed data exploration across the entire company.
Pricing & Free Tier
Free Tier: No.
Pricing: Looker requires custom enterprise pricing. Google Cloud offers a Looker Studio (formerly Data Studio) which is free, but Looker (the core platform) is paid.
How to Use
- Connect your data warehouse (BigQuery, Snowflake) to Looker.
- Write LookML to define your data models.
- Use "Explores" to build reports and dashboards.
- Share dashboards with stakeholders.
Important Notes
- Cost & Complexity: Looker is expensive and requires technical expertise (LookML) to set up. It is not a drag-and-drop tool for beginners.
- Looker Studio vs. Looker: Do not confuse the two. Looker Studio is the free, simple visualization tool; Looker is the heavy enterprise platform.
