Overview

Metabase is an open-source Business Intelligence (BI) tool. It is designed to be incredibly user-friendly, allowing non-technical team members to ask questions about data and build dashboards without needing to write SQL.

Free Tier: Yes. The open-source edition is completely free to self-host.
Starter (Cloud): $85/month for 5 users.
Pro (Cloud): $500/month for advanced permissions and SSO.

How to Use

1. Deploy Metabase via Docker or Jar file.
2. Connect your database (PostgreSQL, MySQL, BigQuery).
3. Use the "Question" builder to select a table, filter data, and summarize it.
4. Click "Visualize" and choose a chart type.
5. Save the question to a Dashboard.

Important Notes

• Self-Hosting: You need basic server administration knowledge to self-host it. However, it is much cheaper than commercial alternatives.
• Complex Queries: While it has a native SQL editor, Metabase is optimized for simple aggregations. Complex, multi-join analytics can be slow.
