About
Overview
MongoDB Atlas is a fully managed cloud database service. It handles the deployment, scaling, and management of MongoDB (a NoSQL document database) across AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure, with built-in security and automated backups.
Pricing & Free Tier
Free Tier (M0): Yes. Includes 512MB of storage, shared RAM/CPU, and is perfect for learning and prototypes.
Serverless: Pay-as-you-go based on reads/writes, ideal for spiky traffic.
Dedicated (M10+): Starts around $57/month for production-grade dedicated clusters.
How to Use
- Create an Atlas account.
- Build an M0 (Free) cluster.
- Create a Database User and allow network access (whitelist your IP).
- Get the connection string (URI) and use it in your app (Node.js, Python, PHP).
Important Notes
- Schema-less Nature: MongoDB does not enforce a schema, meaning you must validate data integrity at the application level.
- Connection Limits: The free M0 tier has a strict limit on the number of concurrent connections. Serverless functions (like AWS Lambda) can quickly exhaust this limit.
