About
Overview
Railway is an infrastructure platform that lets you provision servers, databases, and deploy code with zero configuration. It is a modern alternative to Heroku, offering a highly visual interface for managing environments and deployments.
Pricing & Free Tier
Free Tier: A limited trial (Hobby plan gives $5 of usage/month).
Developer Plan: $5/month. Includes $5 of usage credit and allows you to deploy apps.
Pro Plan: $20/month. Aimed at teams, with higher limits and prioritized support.
How to Use
- Log in with GitHub at railway.app.
- Click "New Project" -> "Deploy from GitHub repo".
- Railway auto-detects your framework (Node, Python, PHP, etc.) and builds it.
- Add a database (PostgreSQL, Redis) by pressing
Cmd/Ctrl + Kand searching for the database.
Important Notes
- Usage-Based Billing: You are billed by the minute for the RAM and CPU your app consumes. If your app has a memory leak, your bill will grow rapidly.
- Ephemeral Storage: The local file system is ephemeral. If you upload files to the server, they will be lost on the next restart. Use S3 or Railway Volumes for persistent storage.
