Overview
Retool is a low-code platform for building internal tools and admin panels. It allows developers to drag-and-drop UI components (tables, forms, charts) and connect them directly to SQL databases or APIs, drastically reducing the time required to build internal dashboards.
Pricing & Free Tier
Free Tier: Yes. Includes up to 5 users, unlimited apps, and basic database integrations.
Team Plan: $10/user/month (billed annually). Adds SSO, audit logs, and more granular permissions.
Business Plan: $50/user/month. Adds source control and advanced security.
How to Use
- Sign up at retool.com and create a new app.
- Go to "Resources" to add your database (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).
- Write a SQL query in the bottom panel.
- Drag a "Table" component onto the canvas and bind it to your query.
Important Notes
- Seat Costs: While it is cheap for a few users, Retool's per-seat pricing can become very expensive if you need to give access to a large team.
- Custom Code: You can write custom JavaScript within Retool to transform data or add complex logic to your UI components.
